Seaspin
More lifelike swimming action, with the casting performance and characteristics anglers have come to expect. The Seaspin Mommotti 190 Bìu introduces a new approach to lure movement, combining the stability and casting capabilities of the original Mommotti with the fluid swimming action of an articulated swimbait.
The concept originated from a Seaspin project developed more than fifteen years ago and was eventually refined through the experience gained with the Strega and the Buginu Bìu models. The result is a lure designed to add extra life to its swimming action while preserving the essential characteristics of the Mommotti 190.
Bìu means alive in Sardinian, and the name reflects the lure's most distinctive feature: an articulation system positioned exclusively in the rear third of the body. The front section maintains the original Mommotti's stable swimming behaviour, while the rear section produces a smooth, natural tail movement, even on a simple straight retrieve.
This is not just another conventional jointed swimbait. It is a Mommotti with an additional degree of freedom.
Casting performance has also been a key part of the design process. The geometry and positioning of the joints help minimize unwanted movement during flight, preserving the long casting distances for which the Mommotti family is well known.
Measuring 190 mm and weighing 36 g, the Mommotti 190 Bìu is a sinking, articulated and silent swimbait developed for targeting powerful coastal predators. Internal weights are securely held in place by extremely precise manufacturing tolerances, producing a genuinely non-rattling configuration. Its weighting system is calibrated to deliver a balance close to that of the Mommotti 190 and 190 K.
Its approximate working depth ranges from 30 to 90 cm, while the sinking design allows anglers to adjust presentation depth by varying the sinking time before retrieving. This is particularly useful when targeting barracuda, where exploring different water layers can make a significant difference.
The swimming action responds progressively to retrieve speed:
Slow retrieve: subtle lateral movement for a restrained, natural presentation.
Medium retrieve: wider wobbling action combined with a slight rolling motion.
Fast retrieve: stronger lateral oscillation and more pronounced rolling for a more aggressive swimming pattern.
The Mommotti 190 Bìu comes equipped with three BKK 4X #4 treble hooks, offering high strength and saltwater corrosion resistance. These premium components are selected to meet the demands of anglers targeting hard-fighting Mediterranean predators.
Developed through handcrafted prototypes, 3D-printed components and extensive sea testing, the Mommotti 190 Bìu is the outcome of a clear design objective: adding movement without sacrificing casting distance, balance or the original Mommotti identity.
If you want the trusted performance of a Mommotti with a more lifelike swimming action, the Bìu is a new take on a proven predator lure.
